Abolition of Committal Proceedings
June 18th, 2012 by Louise Humphreys
As of today (18 June 2012), committal proceedings have been abolished in the following local justice areas:
- Bath and Wansdyke
- Berkshire
- Bristol
- Liverpool and Knowsley
- North Avon
- North Hampshire
- North Somerset
- Ormskirk
- Sefton
- St Helens
- Wigan and Leigh
- Wirral
The effect of the order is that for those local justices areas who previously committed cases to Liverpool, Bristol, Winchester and Reading Crown Court centres will now be governed by the "sending" procedure from the Magistrates' Court.
